Hello r/diy. I am beginning research on how best to wire small low wattage LED lights under the eaves of the roof for subtle downlighting of a freestanding garage and hopefully the house if this project goes well. Garage: Wattage of the individual lights is in the range of 5-15 watts depending on model. I have a few different directions I am thinking of going. Please let me know what would be most compliant with the NEC. Would hate to put in the work and find out I completely missed the mark. PLAN A = There is an existing light fixture at the side entry of garage. Was thinking of running a conduit up from the light to eaves and running cable inside of the exposed eaves around the perimeter of the building. Additionally would install a watertight exterior light switch for on/off. (exterior only because i'm thinking of convenience). It's a square garage approx 30'x30'. Seems in my initial research Type UF-B 12/2 cable without conduit might be appropriate. Then again there seems to be mixed opinions.PLAN B = Crawl into the attic space above garage and run NM cable through wall to individual lights. In terms of layout I am open to suggestion on the easiest way of achieving this. Easier to go from existing light switch, install new box with switch, and chase wire up wall? Looking to accomplish this appropriately but also without spending wAY too much time. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2sd1E4d
