I purchase a lot of equipment from various stores, including Best Buy Canada using a business credit card. So, I took the opportunity to sign up for Best Buy's Reward Zone which are basically points that can be redeemed on the side for items in Best Buy. (Management has no problem, they don't care.)
Summary:
- You can't redeem them for Best Buy Gift Cards, but you can purchase other types of gift card.
- Gift cards at Best Buy Canada are very limited compared to the US. All I can really get are Steam, iTunes, Google Play, or Karma Koin.
- I have no use for any technology, games, or gadgets, and would prefer just cash back or practical gift cards.
- I'm regularly getting a lot of points, but there's a time limit so I'm forced to spend them.
My questions to /r/frugal:
- Are there any ways where I can convert these into something more useful? (e.g. Walmart cards, food, or fuel.)
- Is it easier to convert gift cards, or should I be buying and re-selling something? (e.g. consoles or games)
- I've just signed up for /r/giftcardexchange and I was going to give that a shot.
- Do you have any other hints or strategies to maximize "cash-back" in Canadian reward programs like these?
