I've seen used tires get a lot of hate in this sub, but I just want to highlight my experience with this.
I am of the opinion that leasing cars is a good decision under the right circumstances and with the right deal. As a disclaimer, I used to sell cars, so I had insider knowledge of how leases work and what/when constituted a good deal.
So my first experience with used tires was with my leased car that I was turning in. Two tires were below the 4/32nds required by the leasing company, and I would be charged $200 for each of them. I popped over to a used tire store the day before my lease was out and found one new tire and one that was fairly worn (a little over 5/32nds left). The shop charged me $45 for the first and $35 for the second, labor included.
My second experience was with a flat tire. Pretty simple, I left my car at the shop where it was towed (my car has no spare) and told them I'd bring them a tire in a day or two. Using my wife's car, I found a tire that looked almost new, same brand and everything as the OEMs because it's a common enough car for $35. I took it over and they slapped it on for me for $20.
EDIT: If you're leasing and the leasing company does not charge for mismatched/non-OEM tires, I can't recommend this method highly enough. If you're planning on driving on the tires, obviously YMMV (heyoo), but I still think it's valid if your car doesn't require an uncommon size or type.
