Effective September 5, 2017, the standard settlement cycle for most brokerage transactions—stocks, bonds, and ETFs (exchange-traded funds)—will be reduced from trade date plus 3 business days ("T+3") to trade date plus 2 business days ("T+2"). The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the amended rule in March 2017.
