It should say something like:
$X trade-in + $Y laptop promotion = $75
$X trade-in + $Y Macbook promotion = $250
Your laptop must have some starting trade in value, even if it's $2.50, or it won't qualify for this promotion.
For my experience, I just brought in my old Asus eePC, which would have a hard time selling for $30 or $40, assuming I could even find a buyer. I just booted it on and showed them the RAM, processor, and OS specs, and they gave me a $75 gift card. It was pretty painless and super sweet!
Best Buy is running two overlapping promotions:

If you check out the thread over at /r/buildapcsales you can see what people's experiences are with their trade-ins. Seems like a lot of variation, from staff taking only one laptop per person per day, to staff taking 3+ laptops from the same person, depending on the good-will of the staff.
