My white plastic macbook from 2008 is on its last legs, I might be able to take it to the end of the year or a little further, but I have done quite a lot of maintenance and upgrade on it. Also I'm a technologist in my work, so I'm somewhat far behind. In any case, I'm coming up with the best route to buy a macbook pro 15" inexpensively primarily because I've already used Google Express to buy a usb c hub via Adorama after getting a $40 for $15 offer on Groupon for Google Express. Then I got a lightning deal on Amazon for a 15" macbook pro screen/laptop protector. So with all these accessories, I should probably get a new macbook pro. That being said here are the paths I may take:
- buy apple store giftcards with a 1% discount, then drive to Delaware to purchase one to save on sales tax, ideally they let me use my old .edu email to get a student discount
- wait till Black Friday, buy up best buy discounted gift cards (unable to avoid sales tax this way), possibly unable to use .edu discount.
- wait till August for the no sales tax weekend.
But yeah, you get the gist. Open to getting tips on this. I'll opt for the base model and just supplement lack of storage with an external drive, but my old macbook can't get upgrades to the browser anymore and I have zero idea how to use the new macOS so I figure I should learn how before tech leaves me in the dust.
