I live in a hot, dry climate with plenty of sun. I had the opportunity to go abroad recently, and stumbled into a hat shop with some beautiful panamas and a very nice linen hat of the same style, but the prices were high enough that I couldn't get the proper amount of foreign currency withdrawn before I returned home.

I'm looking for a breathable, durable hat that can shade my face and neck from the sun. By 'flexible,' I mean to say both casual and dress-apropriate, though I don't usually dress up farther than a button-down... I just don't want to walk around in a bucket hat or something super outdoorsy-looking.

I know zip about hats beyond what panama hats are, and that I will never be able to afford a Montecristi. Linen seems like a better material, since it can take a little more wear and tear while still being breathable. Something with a ~3" would be ideal. I'm not sure what kind of shape the hat I tried was; maybe like a fedora, if a fedora had a very wide brim. I know it had a pinched-in crown at the front.

If anyone knows of something remotely like that, please let me know. I found the hats thread on the sidebar, but couldn't track down much from there.
