Hi PF,

This is my first post here so I don't know what to include.

I'm a 20yo/M living in Adelaide, Australia. My parents are saying it's time for me to move out. It's not on a bad note and they aren't kicking me out, they're willing to help me find a place and whatnot.

I have a few options. I could board somewhere with family/friends. I could move interstate to Melbourne with my Aunty who offered a while back but I don't see that working as I have a girlfriend, work and uni here. I could rent a room in a share house or even find a rental and move in with a mate. Finding a rental would be ideal but I understand it's probably the harder option.

I'm studying at Biomedical Engineering at University. At the beginning of the year I deferred my course. But I've decided to go back now. I'm studying part time so I could keep most of my work and because I had to redo 2 first year subjects.

I work a few small jobs at the moment at an out of hours school care (OHSC) one afternoon a week, reffing basketball a few times a week and at a pizza shop on a Friday night. All up I earn $202 a week over about 10 hours.

I only get taxed for work at OHSC as I get paid in cash everywhere else.

OHSC work is good for Uni as you work afternoons. Uni break and vacation care (OHSC during the school holiday) always line up but hours are not guaranteed and depends on numbers and excursions etc.

Because I'm only studying part time I cannot get youth allowance from the government. Next semester when I go back full time (4 subjects) I will be able to (min required for youth allowance is 3 subjects).

In theory if I move out I will be eligible for rent assistance.

Saving wise I have $5k in the bank. I don't own a car or laptop for uni. I pay $40 a month for my phone plan which gets me 7gb of data and unlimited calls and texts. I also have a monthly Spotify subscription.

I'm a bit lost on what I should do and need some direction. Obviously I should start looking for a more permanent job or something that gets me more than 10 hours a week. I still need a laptop for uni and ideally a car although I could just train to uni. I understand not having a car can save a lot of money on petrol, registration, repairs and insurance.

Your help is much appreciated :)
