My mom wanted to buy a used bag online but I told her to be careful since a lot of scams can happen that way and told her to go through verified websites or directly with LV. She ended up "finding a good deal" via Craigslist with a someone in the area locally and met with a young woman who listed the bag as authentic and my mom believed it and paid her cash. My mom met her in a grocery store and with a quick look over believed it to be real but when she got home she checked it online against many pictures of the real one and it was a fake.

She sent emails but the seller doesn't respond and has taken the listing down as well. My mom called me and asked if I could help but idk what I can do except tell her to go to police and filing a report for fraud(?). I asked her if she had this lady's name but she didn't and doesn't have a phone number either. She thinks if she gives the email chain from her inbox that the police will check the IP address and they will find her that way or that they can check the security cameras at the grocery store and they can look via facial recognition or something?

I told my mom we can go but with such limited info I'm not sure they can help. I got severely yelled at for not being more supportive or helpful. She thinks I don't care since I carry some fake bags (but I don't pay as much as her and know it's a fake). She's talking to my brother instead for his help. My mom is always losing money one way or another and this is just the latest.

Reddit is there anything I can do to help her? What can the police really do? Maybe I can email the lady and she will take some pity😫

TL;DR - Mom was scammed & Lost $380. I want to help with with such limited info I told her to be realistic- she's mad at me now and I just want to help.
