Recent Green Card winner. I'll be moving to the USA in a few months.

The plan is to move there, finalize the entire process by landing and getting my passport stamped. Stay in the USA for about 3 months, get back, sell my stuff and then relocate permanently.

For my first 3 months my only requisites are that I need a place to stay that is safe and can get mail so that I can get my green card (the actual physical card).

I'm a decently frugal single guy but I don't think I can manage the same lifestyle in America so I'm open to suggestions.

Right now I need pointers as to where is cheap to live and how can I find such lodging.

I just need a safe and clean place that has a lease so that I can get the bureaucracy on the way (SSN, driver's license, etc). It doesn't have to be near a large urban center or anything but it should not be very secluded since I'll have to interact with government authorities.

A more extreme option would be finding a place that would get my card and later mail it to me. Mail forward services are a no go because apparently it has to be an actual residence, the letter can't be forwarded and apparently some places require my name to be on the actual mailbox.

I'm also open to any tips you might have regarding how I can save money.

Thank you.
