hey all. new homeowner here (moved in dec) and was curious if my jump in kwh usage was normal. 5/9/17 through 6/2/17 i used 759 kwH. That was me not trying to be conservative. i did switch companies but the actual electric provider is the same (oncor) so shouldnt affect the usage noted on my bill. From 6/2 to 7/11 according to the meter reads that i used 1862 kwH. I live in Dallas and realize that July it gets a little hot, but i dont think we've more than doubled any use of appliances. To further investigate this i monitored the last 2 days of my kwH usage and its been 50 kwH a day with me keeping my nest thermostat at 80 (higher than normal) . ive read that keeping your ceiling fan on while raising the ac a few degrees is a more conservative approach so thats what ive been doing. ive also asked around to some other homeowner friends and they seem that over 1500kwh in a month is pretty crazy even in texas. i figured i'd reach out to the reddit community to see if anyone can help me see if theres some underlying issue.
things to note: one story home approx 1800 sq ft with somewhat high ceiling. i work from home twice a week but we had a baby on 6/23 and have been home since. however, the daily spike began before this. ive contacted oncor and they said i "qualify" to have someone take a look at it and will do so within 10 business days. has anyone had experience with this and found a resolution? also gas stove.
