One of my friends keeps insisting that it's more economical to leave central air running 24/7 as it takes less energy to maintain a temperature than it does to drastically reduce it.

My house gets a lot of natural shade and is insulated quite well so it stays cool for a long time. My normal routine is to turn my AC on for an hour or two when I'm home from work to cool the place off -I'll then leave it off until I get home from work again the next day and the place stays pretty cool until then.

Anyone know the answer to this?
