I'm buying a house for my wife and myself in Oregon. This is our first home. Due to her work being part-time, having no assets of her own, and having student loan debt, she would have only hurt me on a mortgage application, so I secured a mortgage by myself. We've now signed all of the paperwork on the house and move in in three weeks! We're so excited!

I told the title company I want her name on the title. The paperwork's been done with her name to be included. I assumed I should include her on the title, and I told my wife I was doing that, but if I hadn't said anything she wouldn't have even known. Now I've spoken with my coworker who's the sole mortgage applicant and sole person on his deed, and he's married. Is there any value to having a non-paying spouse on the title? Could this in any way be a liability for me? Does it even make a difference since we're married anyway? What other implications does having my wife on the title carry?

We have no kids and our relationship is pretty good. I don't foresee us getting divorced, but I have seen good couples fall apart.
