Another person backed into my car while it was parked. Her insurance company accepted responsibility and sent an adjuster to my home to make an estimate. Today, I received a check in the mail for $1900, payable to me.
The vehicle is a 2006 Honda Civic with 125k miles and the damage is only cosmetic. There are also some unrelated dings on the car and some light hail damage on the roof.
I feel like I should either fix all of the damage (even the other dings and the hail damage) or else keep the $1900 in savings for when I am ready to purchase a new vehicle. Spending this money to only fix some of the cosmetic problems seems silly to me.
Is this logic flawed?
I really like the car and keeping it looking nice is/was a point of pride for me, but I also want to do the smart thing with the money. Help me decide?
