Hey guys,I need help. I'm planning to install a barnwood wall this weekend near my mantle (it's on the same wall as the mantle). My plan was to find the studs, screw in some plywood and nail the boards to that (I took a class). I also plan to attach shelves to the barnwood/plywood setup, to hold a record player, some albums, etc.But I can't figure out my damn wall. I'm fairly certain it's plaster as my home was built in 1936, but, after drilling more holes than I'd care to admit, I can't find a stud and I'm doubting myself. When I drilled, I noticed the bit would seem to spin in place unless I pushed on it. At times when I did, I noticed a small cracking or grinding sound before hitting what felt like air. Other times, it sounded like I was drilling into masonry.I also tried several tricks to find the studs, including: climbed into the attic and measured, rapped on the walls with my knuckles, the dangling magnet trick and a cheap magnetic studfinder.I took some photos after I scraped the wall down. Does this look like plaster to you?If not, what the hell is it and how can I get this plywood mounted to the wall and get on with my project? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ugDtpu
