I am a 21 year old student who quit my job recently due to workplace harassment. I have another post up about that if anyone is interested, but it's not particularly relevant to my question. I have another job lined up now, but it doesn't start until mid-August.
A few months ago, while I was still employed, I planned a week-long trip to New York City. I paid for the flight and an Airbnb. After losing my job, my modest savings quickly ran out. The trip is coming up in 5 days, and I have virtually no spending money.
I have to consider the cost of food and drinks, sightseeing, souvenirs, transportation, and parking for my car while it's at the airport all week ($15 a day) unless I can get a friend to take me and pick me up. I'll try to be somewhat thrifty; however, I've never been to New York before, and it's a trip I've been dreaming about for years. I don't want to put myself on an unreasonably tight budget. New York is expensive, and I picture myself spending anywhere from $500-$1000 over the course of the week.
Unless anyone has a get-rich-quick scheme (seriously, I'm all ears), I'm probably going to have to take out a loan. I've thought about asking my parents if I can borrow money, but our relationship is somewhat strained and they don't approve of the trip or my money management skills in general. They've already helped me out a bit financially, and I can tell they're getting annoyed.
I've never taken out a loan and have no idea where to start. I looked at the options my bank (PNC) offers, but there were 4 different choices - personal installment loan, secured or unsecured, and personal line of credit, secured or unsecured. I tried reading the descriptions but I seriously have no idea what the difference is between all of them, or which one is right for me.
Obviously, I'm also worried about how much I'm going to owe in the future... I figure I can realistically pay back the loan within 6 months to a year, but how much interest can I expect to accumulate?
I have no idea what I'm doing... please help before I majorly screw myself over financially.
