So, my wife's parents are nice enough to be giving my son their old beat-down car when he turns 16 in October.
It's a 97 Infiniti but it's been driven into the ground. I asked my All State insurance agent about adding him and the car to our policy and it adds $2k a year! (Without comprehensive, just bare bones) Other quotes online seem to be similar.
It currently costs my wife and I $1600 combined for our newish cars
So I'm wondering how we're going to afford this? The car needs new tires and I think it has 200k-300k miles on it so I imagine there will be a good deal of maintenance. Plus i think it only gets 20mpg.
I want to be happy and act appreciative but it's hard because I'm so worried about the financial strain.
I know my son should contribute but he's taking AP and honors classes as well as spending a lot of time on school sports.
Thank you for your help Rob
