My first job out of college. I am a property manager. They currently have me as a 1099 contractor. However, I think they are misclassifying me because

  1. They have me work in the office and they tell me the times I should be there
  2. They supervise me and tell me how or what I should do.

They give me "projects" to make it seem like I'm a contractor, but I still dont' think it is.

My dilemma is, I like this company. I like the people. I like the work. They pay me $15 an hour as an independent contractor which at the end comes out to basically $10.50 which is minimum wage in California.

I see other companies that are offering $18, but they are classified as employees and receive benefits such as insurance and PTO.

My options?:

  1. Ask the current company for $22 an hour because I enjoy being there
  2. Stay at the current company until I find another job and then leave
