Long story short my ex-wife had a psychiatrist bill (accrued while we were still married) that she let go to collections (while we in the process of getting divorced).
As part of the divorce arrangement she agreed to accept the responsibility for that debt and the judge included it in the court order.
I sent the debt collector a copy of the order as well as contact information for my ex-wife. The collector sent me back a letter saying they do not have to honor the court order because they are a 3rd party and the debt went to collections prior to the final date of our divorce.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. I still have my lawyer on retainer but would like to avoid using his services for something like this if it's as simple as 'Threaten to sue them' or something.
If it matters, I'm in Wisconsin.
Thank you in advance.
