I read on here it is worth it to cancel my phone plan even though I would need to pay a fee to get out of the plan. I like my phone but got the plan last year which means I still have another year before it ends, this was before I started watching my money lol.

I have tried to work it out in terms of cancelling my current plan, paying the fee and then switching to a sim only plan which I can cancel any time with no contract or exit fees.

As it stands I am paying $68.99 monthly ($60 plan and $8.99 handset). I have 12 months and 25 days remaining, my contract expiring 2/8/18. 12x68.99= $827.88 I will pay over the next year. The sim only plan I was looking at is $40 per month. 12x40= 480 over the next year. That sounds great, but the early exit fee from my current plan would set me back $476.96.

So when you look at it all together, staying with my plan would be $827.88, and switching to sim only and paying the fee would be $947.96 (sim plan cost + fee).

Is there something I'm missing? Do I have to just suck up paying for my current plan until it expires? Or could there be an alternative way to save on switching plans without paying a hefty fee?
