First time post to this sub so I hope I'm following the rules ok.

I'm the equivalent of a retail assistant manager for a grocery chain here in the US. One of the "cool" ones. I'm happy with my development, the job, my current assignment, etc. I am proud to take on a lot of work and get a lot done as well. I've been at my current job title for two and a half years since my last promotion and I'm probably at least three years away from even being considered for a store manager position.

We have a once annual review process during which we write a self evaluation (about 3k characters) and then my boss sits with me and provides his feedback. At the end there is a set salary increase, and it's sign it away until next year.

Last year my annual raise was 10%, which I realize is awesome by most people's standards. This, however is offset by:

I know my hourly rate is below average, and that they get one hell of a deal for my services.

Before I receive this raise, what steps would you recommend to help me maximize my return on all of my hard work. I don't want to take my services elsewhere, and like I said, I'm not unhappy. I just would like to earn where I should be earning. With everything set and scripted I don't feel like there's much room for negotiation.

Thanks for your time.
