I'm a Vanguard Flagship client, so I'm allowed to invest in many (if not, all) of their closed funds and perhaps some of their institutional funds.
I've slowly been throwing stuff into their Total Stock Market Index (VTSAX), and I recently put a little into the Total International Stock Index and Small-Cap Index since it seemed VTSAX wasn't weighted enough towards small-caps.
I spoke to my personal rep at Vanguard and he didn't really care what I did lol. He was still advocating the three-fund portfolio, but told me I could use whatever funds I wanted.
I know next-to-nothing about actively managed funds. All I've heard is people saying how they overcharge. But most of these Vanguard active funds have less than a 0.50% expense ratio, which is still very low. And it's not like I'd be making it my entire portfolio.
Also, if I use these things, how much of my portfolio should I dedicate to actively managed funds - and what's the cut off for how much I should dedicate to each fund?
