I'm currently thinking of making a garage by hand with a dimension of 20ftx40ft or 30x50. What are tips on how to get this done/advice that's good for a first time build. I have experience with building things with wood but have never made a building. I will have a company come lay down the concrete foundation instead of risking a mess up on my end for this. It's mainly going to be storing 2 cars and double as a workshop. Main questions/concerns. 1. Would I be better buying wood beams at Home Depot/lowes or a local lumber company(we have several due to being in the south out in the country) 2. Would a garage require a wooden truss roof or would a flat roof be fine. 3. I want to insulate the inside to keep it cooler when working inside of it. Is there anything specific to do/don't do as I've never handled insulation. 4. Should I use treated wood for the build? 5. Is there a certain time limit that I should try and beat with leaving just a wooden building frame open to the elements before putting on the siding/roof. (Any electrical work will be done by someone who has experience with it.) Any tips/suggestions on what to do or not to do would be great! I could always attempt a small shed first if need be to get more familiar with building an actual building but this is more of a project to see how far I can go on my own with the current skill set I have. Edit: will make sure to get proper permits if I do build this. Thanks! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2gTwLR2
