Hi - I have an autoimmune disease in which I can pay a premium to "buy-in" to our state's Medicaid program. The monthly premium is $90 and as a result I have full Medicaid benefits, e.g. no deductible, $2 specialist co-pays, $3 co-pay for my specialty medication. Basically, no cost-sharing.
Vs.
Taking my group health coverage through work, which also costs me nothing, however I have a $1250 deductible and pay more customary co-pays, e.g. $35/specialist visit and $55/mo for my specialty meds.
Is it worth paying $90/mo to be enrolled in Medicaid? $1080/year so I can have no cost-sharing. Other case scenario is maintaining enrollment in work coverage where I would pay $55/mo for meds and otherwise co-pays and cost-sharing when I use services (infrequent).
My sense is it would be foolish to drop Medicaid as it prevents me owing any considerable cost-sharing for health care - but at the same time I will save $35/mo if I enroll in my employer plan.
