I have often hearing people compare their growth against S&P, whole market. I see S&P growth is way lower than nasdaq in many years. Using google finance,

  • I see growth since 1977 Nasdaq:S&P = 6393% : 2376%

  • I see growth since 2007 (10 years) Nasdaq:S&P = 141% : 58%

  • I see growth since 2012 (5 years) Nasdaq:S&P = 129% : 90%

In addition, they often say it is difficult to beat S&P. If someone simply invest in nasdaq index, it is easier to beat in the long run.

I understand based on past performance, no guarantee for future performance. However, assuming nasdaq listed companies are equally good standing like S&P companies, we are still better following nasdaq than S&P.

IMO, considering their performance since 1977, I really do not feel for diversification like S&P market.

Am I wrong or right in following Nasdaq than S&P?
