This isn't something you buy, per se, but you do pay for it with an up-front cost of your time to learn to type in Dvorak. I think it fits with the ethos of this sub, as a thing you invest in that you continue to use for most of your life, but feel free to correct me. It's definitely practical, proven, made-to-last, and with regards to durability, we're talking about reducing stress on your hands, which most people only get one pair of for life.

When my career in software was just beginning over ten years ago, I began to have repetitive strain issues. I made a few adjustments, one of which was learning Dvorak as an investment in the health of my hands. I've been typing Dvorak 99% of the time since then. It hasn't ever caused me significant inconvenience. Sometimes when someone tries to type on my computer before I switch it to querty, they get confused or frustrated. But it's easy to toggle. Windows, Mac, and Linux all support Dvorak out-of-the-box, and iOS and Android may or may not, but there are definitely third party apps for it.

If you like the idea but are intimidated by the learning curve, I have heard that Colemak is an easier switch, sharing a lot of keys with querty.
