Hi all

Recently graduated programmer living in the UK. I changed career at 23 from a well paid data analyst to software development due to the love of the craft.

During my studies I came across simple living and minimalism. I have integrated the concepts well into my life, both removing clutter and changing my mentality towards life.

With that, I've realise that my line of work does not lend itself well to simple living. Its difficult to find part time work in this role, the hours tend to be quite difficult during certain projects, and the constant use of technology can feel draining.

All that said, I still love the subject, and my work isn't too bad. At the moment though, I feel my life is much more complex than I would like it to be. I want to find the time to enjoy some downtime, but there doesn't seem to be any time whatsoever. I exercise, I socialise, I keep up to date with the industry, and I do all the little jobs that need to be done, when they need to be done. I just don't feel I'm fitting downtime in at all; doing what needs to be done, not what I want to do.

This really isn't a complaint, my life is in a position most people would love to be in. Maybe I've hit the simple balanced lifestyle without realising it, but I'm just not quite sure.

Anyways, life story over! Open to discussion and I would like to ask other developers out there how they simplify their lives?

Let's KISS - Keep it simple, stupid!
