I decided to reuse some silica packets I got out of boxes shipped from China. I put the packets into empty plastic spice bottles and then put those bottles into sealed containers with my fresh foods. My container of chopped mushrooms proceeded to become soggy with tons of excess moisture and have a chemical flavor and smell. The problem proceeded to worsen quickly within a short time. I had eaten a generous portion of the mushrooms the day before I realized what was happening.

What the hell is going on? Should I be worried?
