Use Amazon to help select the best product, because their item reviews are more useful, sorting is faster, and savings item for later is better (unlimited items in cart, public wishlist, or private wish list).
Then once you know exactly what you want, always check eBay for the item. Often on eBay, you can avoid being charged for sales tax, and get free shipping.
The savings on the sales tax alone can make a huge total price difference, although technically you may have to report and pay it at the end of the year depending on your state's laws.
TL; DR- Amazon charges sales tax up front for the regions many customers are located in. eBay can help you get around that, which is worthwhile for large purchases and for small purchases adds up.
