So my wife had a medical procedure back in April and we finally got the billing info after insurance, $2200! Well, that sucks I guess, but whatever that's what emergency funds are for. So when I called in to make my payment, I asked the lady if they offered any discounts for paying in full (Mostly joking), and she said always, and that I could save 20% by paying everything today.
Saved $440 just for asking!
I'm sure not every place does this, but it never hurts to ask! Just another way that having an emergency fund not only can smooth out life's bumps, but can actually save you money! Had I not have had the money set aside to pay it in full I wouldn't have been able to take advantage of the discount.
