Hi folks, I need help understanding this as this sounds very confusing. I purchased a Ring floodlight, which it says it required to be hardwired. I wanted to test it prior to putting it up and I tried to connect it directly to an outlet. I connected a 3 prone plug and a wire to the device and plugged it into the wall. The device didn't fully work. After calling Ring support and being on the phone for a while, they said the device must be hardwired to a junction box, it wouldn't get enough power any other way and it wouldn't work. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, power through an outlet is the same or very close to hardwiring to a junction box. same amps, same volts, same frequency. I guess the first question is does this make any sense and how (I'm intrigued to learn otherwise). second question is has anyone used this device and setup similarly to how I described here.Assuming this has to be hardwired and there are ways to detect or differences. is there any alternative?thank you in advance. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2sw7G3G
