I have learned so much in this sub and would appreciate a little advice. I am leaving a university job after almost a decade. I am not going straight to another employer as I am taking a couple months to learn a new skill and look for jobs in a non-academic field. I have been contributing to a 403b and that has been matched by my employer. When I asked how to go about rolling that money into something else (a Roth IRA or...my eventual employers 401k plan?) I was told by HR that I could but there was a catch: if I ever worked for any state/public agency again that offered a 403b, I could not partake and the employer would not match my contributions. I haven't really seen that said anywhere else-does anyone know more info on that? I am leaning toward just leaving it as a 403b at least until I have a new career path settled, and then rolling to either IRA or 401k, but would love to hear advice.
