Apologizes for the wall of text. I spent money on something, the thing failed, I'm very confused, and I'm just trying to get a damn pair of work boots
I have a job working outside. I used a pair of red wings boots for it, which were unfortunately unsuited to the job; their waterproofing was compromised and a few barbs penetrated the boot. So, I went in for what I assumed would be a routine exchange/warranty as the boots were still protected by the twelve month warranty.
The shop owner however stated that the warranty didn't cover the damages as it didn't occur from "materials defects". He said he'd give me half off a different pair of boot better suited to my job and that I should buy some tuff toe to go along with it. So I did.
I was confused though, so after talking with some family who had purchased red wings for their work, one of them also got confused and decided to ask some sort of company representative about it, who promptly stated that any pair of working boots that was not otherwise exempted was totally 100% under warranty and I should go back and ask the store owner what the deal was.
So I did, and after a one sided "conversation" that I didn't understand at all he gave me my money back and told me to pretend it never happened. According to him the warranty genuinely didn't county and he was doing me a favor. This might very well be true.
I just wanted boots, so I shut up and went with it. That would have been fine but then the replacement boots started going bad too. I decided I'd try to use the warranty from the replacement boots as I had the receipt, and would just try to call in to ask about warranty through an official retailer, but the man on the phone immediately became irritated and said "I don't know why you're calling me when I didn't sell you the product" and hung up.
I'd use the money I got back for a set of new, bullshit-free boots, but remember, I only got half of the cost, and after buying like six vials of tuff toe, saddle soap, boot polish and waterproofing gel in a failed attempt to preserve the replacement boots most of that money is gone.
TL;DR some confusing ass thing happened and I just want a pair of boots for work and I'm not having good luck.
