I work in a library at a big University, and every month we clean out the lost & found and we have tons of textbooks/books in general that get left behind and are never claimed. Apparently the library used to sell them and make a bunch of money, but the higher-ups stopped letting them do it a few years ago. Now, they all get thrown out, or put on the "free to a good home" bookshelf. AKA, I take them to my good home and look them up on Amazon and get anywhere from $7 to $40 per book depending on what it is. It's been fantastic for extra cash lately.

Tip: If there are multiple libraries on a campus near you, aim for one that focuses on math/engineering. The textbooks tend to be more expensive.
