Background: I work a city job that has very low pay but a pension plan that was very good, so good in fact it has been under attack for years by the city because it was protected by state legislation.

Finally the city was able to get some reform bills passed and now the benefits are already getting cut with possibly more in the future.

All the employees are seeing this as only the beginning and many are thinking of jumping ship (myself included).

There is an immediate job opening with much better pay but a 401k plan instead of a pension. I guess my question is do I ride out the reforms and hope to keep a pension or jump for a better salary but 401k style retirement?
