Hey reddit, i am 19 years old i have had my license for a little over 6 months now and i just bought a 2009 honda civic LX. I am very new to this and would love to get educated on car insurance and what i can do to get a lower quote. Ive been searching for quotes here in nyc and the smallest amount ive gotten is about 550 dollars monthly for 6 months which i find insane. I have a cab driving half-brother that i wouldnt dare ask to put me in his insurance unless its last option and my mother also has a license but no vehicle and has only had her U.S license for over 6 months aswell. (Not sure if it matters but she had a license back in her home country Dominican Republic for years) Do you guys have any suggestions to what my best course of action should be?
