Hi! I've always liked DIY projects, and I've always done the little things around the house. A few months ago I adopted a puppy, so I made him a wooden training cage. I'm totally amateur but consider myself a bit of a handyperson. And I have a few tools!I come from computer science background; I enjoy the idea of sketching and designing stuff in Autodesk software or SketchUp.Now I want to build one of those running wheels for pets (my dog is a small breed, less than 10kg)That thing in the pictures sells for 1500$. Even if I had the money, I wouldn't like to be scammed like that; also it's a perfect opportunity for a DIY!I'd love to design it in my mac and then build it, but I've never done in such a 'pro' way and... I turned to Reddit of course! As you can see this is a project I mostly want to do to enjoy myself, learn new things and, if all goes well, see my little friend run inside the thing. What software would you recommend? I'd be great if I could test somehow with different weights or see where the structure is weakest so I can redesign it etcHow do I chose the materials? Is it too crazy for considering carbon fiber having never worked with it before?Any recommendations, given the objective? Should I go for the central bearings like in the picture or make the big wheel rest on a platform with skate-like wheels rotating on an axle (so let's say, two axles of 2 or 3 wheels to support the big wheel)Any and all wisdom is greatly appreciated!FWIW I'm in Barcelona (Spain). via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2sVCETj
