We bought our house three years ago in a neighborhood that was very poorly graded. (we are not on a flood plain) On the side of the house with the cable/phone/electrical underground, we have a flooding issue. The slab is VERY close to the ground on that side and when it rains the water gets dangerously close to the top of the slab. The house is on the middle of a hill to some degree. The front yard slopes down to the road. There is a hill that slopes to the back yard from the property behind us. The property on the low side slopes down to us. And the high side slopes down to a house lower on the hill. The low side has an area between the rear of the house and about the mid point that drains very slowly to the front. VERY VERY slowly. There is a fence along this side that belongs to the neighbors. We can not put a normal french drain along this side of the house because of the electrical (its already been nicked by the fence company and caused issues) We have "rerouted" the drain spouts to go someplace besides the side of the house. The water in the back yard gets deep, but its away from the house and it flows nicely. This pic shows the birds eye view with markings as to slope and flow of water Birds eye view with mark up The next several show the actual flooding after a normal rain fall. Water almost to top of slabLooking from HVAC unit to rear of houseLooking from rear to frontFlooding starts at HVAC unitAnother rear to front view of floodingIt gets really REALLY close to the top of the slabWe have been told we can not put in a french drain because of the location of the utilities along the area we'd need to dig. The fence people hit it even though it was marked and its not as deep as they thought. I have GOT to get this water under control before we have a major issue. The rear of the house is up-slope so we cant drain it to the rear. County codes say if we run a french drain it would have to drain to the road and not to another person's land. (We cant run one anyhow, but that's the code) I'm thinking about a stone filled ditch to allow the water to seep into the ground and give it a place to go besides against the side of my house. It would run along the "flooding side" and wouldn't go past the HVAC unit where the electrical is. Or maybe dig a pit and fill it with stone for the water to drain into. I just don't know what route I need to take. I really need some suggestions that I can DIY this project and not have to hire it out.
