Hey everyone, I’ve been lurking this subreddit for a while now and wanted to give back a little for once. I’m going to share with you all my personal guide and links to the advice from parts of reddit that helped me live more simply throughout the past year. Let me know if anyone has feedback for me & message me if you have any questions!

Deleting Social Media

One of the most important parts of living simply for me is to block out all of the extra noise that I would hear all day. This mostly comes from apps like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. I figured out that my boredom was a subconscious trigger for me to pull out my phone & fill the void by routinely checking every single app I had. Doing this day in and day out made less time to just stare at a wall and think about the day. Here is the reddit thread where I initially had the thought of actually putting this into action:

Hotspot Devices

One thing I hated with my old internet plans with Comcast was all the devices and wires I had running through my house just to use the internet. A few months ago I finally took the constantly repeated advice from this subreddit to buy a hotspot device. This is a portable box you can bring anywhere to get unlimited internet with the same speeds you would get with a normal provider. This led me to cancel my WiFi and data plans which saved me around $723 a year and got rid of all the extra boxes & cords.

There’s a few companies that sell them so do your research before buying one. I have the Freedata.io device, but there’s also another company called Unlimitedville which has the same speeds as well (but is more expensive). Here’s a guide on which ones to buy:

Reading More

I think everyone here already knows why you should be reading but I’ll go over my own personal reasons. For one, I think there are too many books in existence which means you can never stop learning. Every single book you pick should be able to introduce something new to your life that was previously not there before.

Another point is that if you are trying to learn something, it will be faster to learn as opposed to strictly trying to teach yourself alone. Like another thread noted, these authors have many years spent in their craft or area of expertise and having the opportunity to learn from them is invaluable. Cutting Out TV

I know this can be hard for a lot of you to do but cutting TV out from your life tends to help a lot of people out, especially users from this subreddit. I’ve personally found out that this is mostly a habit I do on a subconscious level and that just being aware of my actual motivations makes me realize that I don’t really enjoy watching it all too much. Being aware of your real desires is the first step and removing temptation is the next. Here is a thread from our subreddit that helps elaborate some of the methods you can use for yourself:

Planning Software

A lot of the clutter on my desk and wall are all related to the planning of my days and weeks. I write lists on papers for the tasks I need to complete for my day and constantly am sticking post-it notes on the walls to remind of any other things I need to do during the week. This creates a mess in my work area and is especially not a good look if you’re subscribed to this subreddit specifically. Something that really helped me was downloading planning software onto my computer & getting apps for my phone to assist with it as well. I personally use a software called Trello, but I would suggest checking out this thread for more suggestions.
