My mom just passed away at 93. For the last several years, I was on her checking account in order to help pay some of her bills and generally just keep an eye on her fixed Social Security income. Last week, I closed her account via telephone with no outstanding checks or debits, etc. There was literally $8+ in her account, which the customer service rep transferred to my account. I thought that was that. Now, however, the bank is asking for a death certificate (after the fact), etc. If there's any additional debt tied to her bank account that I don't know about, can the bank seek repayment from MY account at the same bank that is solely in my name? For example, she had an open credit card account issued from the same bank. She didn't use it that I know of, but if there's $100 unsettled on that card, for example, can they trace repayment back to my account that is solely in my name? Thanks.
