Hey r/simpleliving,

My most recent personal project is an app that might be useful for those who often end up with a phone in their hand, a time-wasting app open on it, and no idea about how they got there.

ZenLock can intercept any app, and display a mindful message for a set amount of time before opening the app to remind you of the importance of your time.

Of course you can fully customise which apps to block, how long to wait before the app will open, and how long the app will stay unlocked after that. For example, you can set ZenLock to wait 20 seconds before opening a specific app, and then give you 10 minutes of normal usage once the time has passed.

Made this after I realised how taking out my phone and starting up something like Reddit had become almost an automatic reflex on some occasions. With this on, most of the time I don't want wait for the countdown to finish - I put my phone away. That means it wasn't vital for me to actually check that app - Just obsessive compulsive checking. Instead, I get a good reminder to live in the present moment :)

I sent this over to r/getdisciplined, but thought this was a good spot to chat about it too.

I realise some of this might sound too extreme of you, but if you reckon it might prove useful please give it a shot! You can download it from the Play Store. You can also check some screenshots here. I'm here to answer any questions as well.

Cheers, L
