I know that I need to go get a power of attorney notarized with them, but is there anything else I need to do to get started? Things are starting to get very serious, my grandfathers situation is worsening and my grandmother is now starting to suffer from other health issues, though not cognitive fortunately. She is the one that agreed to grant power of attorney since she is still within her cognition.

As a point of curiosity, I had a friend in real estate check up on their house to see if there are any active reverse mortgages in play, and the financial status on their home mortgage shows as defaulted :(

My grandfather has a pension, he has worked at many space agencies and is one of the original engineers involved in most space exploration projects since the first launch. Im very proud of my family but his mind is deteriorating and he has long since let my grandmother handle the financials, and clearly she has let things gone to ruin so I need to act as quickly as possible and try to help them.

Any advice would be extremely helpful and thank you all so much for being here.

Also, this is the start of Estate-Planning. I've never done it before and did not think I would be tasked at such a young age, but here I am stuck in the middle of it! So any advice on who I should speak to regarding estate planning and what the smartest path forward would be very helpful.
