Just found out the state (Texas) we are moving to is one of only 15 states in the US where energy is deregulated. Apartment complex we will be leasing from sent us links to several companies they recommend and I was like wtf until I did some research. Any other state I've lived in, you just call the company and they set you up with a fixed rate...no choosing!

So, in attempts to keep utilities as low as possible, I'm doing some research. We tend to keep our air lowest at night, and bump it up during the day. We will have ceiling fans in our apartment which will help, too. A couple plans offer fixed rates vs. variable rates, some with free weekends, others free evenings (I think this might be best for us).

Anyone have any advice on how to choose these plans???? How to get the cheapest plan possible?? I don't even know what a "good" energy rate is so I'm having to research that as well!

Thanks in advance!
