I just deliberately quit a day job to live on savings (and soon part time shift work to supplement), while I pursue a (paid) passion.

How do I get health insurance now? It looks like all the cheapest plans are about $450-$500/mo which is crazy high. I can't really afford to spend that much.

Seems like there may be some cheaper options via the ACA, but I don't know if I'm eligible (because I worked half this year so maybe my salary is averaged across the whole year?). Also, I don't want to "sponge off the system" as it were.

With the no insurance option, I'm worried about two things: 1) Trumpcare, and if that'll bring back the "pre-existing condition" / "gap in coverage" issues. 2) If I get hit by a car or get cancer or something, will I be screwed?
