I'm currently a 22 year old female that just graduated from college. In the past couple months, my mom has been diagnosed with two primary cancers, which is in addition to another cancer she had about five years ago. She did some genetic testing and tested positive for a gene called Li Fraumeni (a TP53 mutation), which basically predisposes one to a whole myriad of cancers beginning at young ages.

There is a 50/50 chance of offspring carrying the gene, which would be me. If I do have this gene, I need to start doing yearly screenings (dermatology, MRIs, mammograms, colonoscopy every 5 years, etc. etc.) ASAP. My mom and I have both met with a genetic counselor and having gone over all of the different issues associated with this gene and how important it is to stay on top of things and get tested in order to take preventative measures if necessary. I also know that if I ever want the possibility of guaranteed life insurance, I should do it now to get locked in in case I test positive. I do not currently have dependents, but I am in a committed relationship and we do plan to get married soon and have children at some point. I know I have the option of holding off on the gene testing, but I do not want to take any chances. Also, I am aware of the GINA act.

So my question: where on earth do I begin with life insurance? So far, it seems that term LF seems to be the most recommended option, but I'm not sure if that makes sense for someone who still has so many years until retirement is an option. I also have no idea what companies are considered 'good' and what is considered 'bad.' How do I know if I am making the right decision? Where do I even look? I also don't have a job yet - I just graduated last week. I'm planning to moving later this fall, so right now I'm only looking for part-time work while I take care of my mom through chemo, so I'm not exactly rolling in money at the moment - I'm not sure what I'd qualify for. I apologize for the extensive ignorance in this post, but I'm just really lost and starting to become extremely stressed and worried about the entire situation. Any advice/tips?
