Maybe this can help someone someday. Most universities offer tuition waivers to employees and their dependents. I took a job as a maintenance mechanic at a small university, and took all of the classes for an associates in business admin. I could have majored in many other things. All I had to pay for was books, and one $50 lab fee. My kids could have gone too if they were older. Many universities pay fairly well, have good benefits, including lots of laid time off. Many are union. Some even reciprocate tuition waivers with other schools, so if you work at one, your kids can attend a different one. Even third party vendors we're legible for partial tuition waivers, meaning if you were an Aramark food service employee, you were eligible for 25-50% off tuition. It's a pretty sweet deal, but I don't think it's something too many people know about, so I thought I'd put it out there.
