I've found myself extremely distracted lately while working and studying, especially because of social media apps and websites, so I made an app to help me overcome these distractions and improve my productivity. I wish to share it here for the benefit of others.
I've successfully used the Pomodoro technique in the past to overcome procrastination and manage time, so I decided to expand upon it and build a more powerful timer.
The result is 'Focus', a Pomodoro timer app that also does the following while the timer is running:
-
It puts my phone on silent (vibrate) mode and turns it back to normal mode once the timer stops.
-
It blocks push notifications from other apps, and shows all the missed notifications at the end of the session for quick review.
-
It blocks access to social media apps that I find distracting (they are closed automatically if I try to open them).
-
I can connect it to my desktop browser using a Chrome extension. Once connected, it also stops me from accessing social media websites on my laptop while the timer is running.
-
It plays soothing nature sounds (like a raniforest, ocean waves, fireplace etc.) to help me concentrate better.

NOTE: I'm posting this app here after weeks of testing, personally and with friends. It is a fairly finished and robust app, and I've been using it daily and have found it helpful. That said, there's definitely a lot more it can do, so feedback, suggestions and criticism are welcome! :)
