Long story short, when I got out of the military, I was utilizing my GI Bill to go to school. The VA overpaid me and supposedly sent me a letter stating so and that I owed them money. Flash forward 18 months and I'm running a credit check, because now I want to get my financial life in order. The credit check returns that I have a balance from the VA that is in collections. I call the VA and they tell me that they sent multiple letters to an address that I had since moved twice from and I never received the letters. The VA tells me that there isn't anything that they can do and my credit score will take a hit. I immediately paid the money I owed in full. Now a couple years later, I want to buy a house, but my credit score still reflects that I had an account in collections, albeit paid in full.
Tl;dr, account went to collections and is showing up on my credit score.
Is there anything that I can do to have that dropped from my credit score? Is there anyway that I may be able to repair it?
