I was reading about Alibaba's desire to get into SMBs globally, not just in China, recently. Ma seems to show a strong interest in SMBs in the USA, and Aliexpress already ships a lot of products to US customers via SMBs and dropshipping.
Given Shopify is a major player in this field, and has a lot of data on SMBs, is an Alibaba - Shopify acquisition or investment at some point in the near future possible? I actually think SHOP would be a great way for BABA to gain a foothold in US e-commerce and US retail, and to compete against AMZN.
