So my SO is neck deep in bills. When she was 16 she had a car she shared with her sister that their parents owned. Over the past 2 years she was told that she was going to need to get her own car as her dad was going to take that car sense his was breaking down. Her parents do not really have much extra spending money, and it is their car after all. So she was informed to get a new car. Her Mother took her to the car dealership and looked at cars with her. Her parents (looking back) are awful at money because they got her to buy a 2010 kia that was around $13,000 and she worked at Wendy at the time. She had no credit but her mother was a co-signer so her internist rate was decently high. Her parents ended up giving it to her sister actually and my SO never really needed a new car as his never broke down, they never told the other sister either that she needed a new car. She did not know really anything about this as her mom was making most of the decisions. Now she has a new job and still has the car. She is only making 10.75 an hour (Ohio) and her car payment is about 300$ a month. She had a car accident and now her insurance is up to 2~~ (something). Also because shes only 20 (she was 19 when she got the car). She broke her phone a while back as well and (against my opinion) got another phone, so she his paying for 2 phones at the moment. Basically around $100 for her phone, $300 in car payments, $2~~ for insurance. And that's coming out to most of her paycheck. Shes looking for a 2nd job now that things have gotten serious. Her sister is now moving back in because she has no money (I swear this family kills me with how they mishandle money). I've always been pretty good with money and helped her budget out food and regular expenses. Now shes needing more of a long term plan as shes now being forced to move out after being set up with this shitty plan. Part is her fault but I also out part of the blame on her parents for how they led it to this situation. Any advice on what she can do to start saving more and move forward so she can start to save money.
